What Does Your Online Job Application Submission Status Actually Mean?

What does your online application submission status actually mean

Hi! Is this process also applicable to companies using SAP successfactors for their recruitment process?

Hello there and thanks for your comment.
SAP successfactors is very similar but unfortunately, it doesn’t have as many tell tale signs as Taleo. For example, even when your application is unsuccessful, a ‘withdraw application’ link will always be present. With SAP it’s best to use the ‘status date’ as an indicator. If that date is different than your ‘application date’ and you still haven’t heard anything from the company then it’s likely that the recruiter has assessed your application.
      I hope this helps!

I applied at a job that uses the Taleo system my submission status say “in progress” and when i click on that is says interview complete. what do you feel like this means. The interviewer informed me that he had training was going on vacation for a few days following that.

You’ve gotta love Taleo! May I ask, is the ‘withdraw’ button still present – that is 9 times out of 10 the only tell tale sign that your application is still under active consideration. You can’t always rely on “IN PROGRESS” – It can mean very different things from one company to another.

      • Kelly

        Yes, it is still present.

That’s always a really good sign! It sounds like the HR department still have your application open – cross fingers!!

I applied with hca and I received an email saying I have progressed through the screening process and expect the next steps in email or call ?what does this mean? I have applied to them before but always get the “I’m not the right fit “ response.

It’s certainly a good sign – although, if you want to get a sense of whats happening behind the scenes, then I would recommend using the steps in this article to guide you. It’s sometimes difficult to second guess whether you’ll be successful just from one email as every company sets up their auto-responses differently.

Hi, I applied for a job with a company that uses Taleo and one day my application status was “Under Consideration” and today it has changed to “Completed.” I’ve never seen this before as it usually just says Declined/Rejected from the position instead of changing to “Completed.”

    • PYOK Admin

It very much depends on how an individual company has set up their Taleo system – some companies will leave the default as “completed”. It looks like in this case your resume has been automatically shortlisted by the computer for further review. The fact that the status has now changed to “completed” would suggest the hiring manager has chosen another candidate for the position.
If the “withdraw” button is no longer present then this is sure fire way to know that your application has been rejected.
      I hope this helps Victoria.

The back end function of Taleo is a lot more advanced from what you are seeing. It look like the company hasn’t updated the standard status messages so it’s really difficult to know whether your application has been ‘weeded’ or not. If you still see a ‘withdraw’ button then your application is still being processed. If not, you have most likely been unsuccessful but the company is still processing applications so it will take a little while before you get an update message.
