Wow! In a major recruitment news announcement, Lufthansa has laid out plans to hire around 8,000 new employees in 2018 – the airline says the “majority” of these new roles will be flight attendants. According to Lufthansa, last year around one in three cabin crew candidates was offered a job with the airline.
Now, it’s important to note that not all the positions are at Lufthansa itself. The Lufthansa Group owns a number of different airlines including its budget brand, Eurowings as well as SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.
However, Lufthansa has plans to recruit around 2,500 flights attendants for its flagship airline in Frankfurt and Munich alone. Eurowings is also set for a massive expansion in 2018 and has already agreed to take on a large number of ex-airberlin cabin crew who would otherwise have been made redundant when the company collapsed.
“Lufthansa is still one of the most attractive companies in Germany and is the ideal employer for many applicants. Last year, over 100,000 applications were submitted,” explained Dr Bettina Volkens, the head of Deutsche Lufthansa’s HR department.
Interestingly, Lufthansa is the largest employer in Frankfurt with an astonishing 38,000 employees.

While some positions require candidates to submit their application online, Lufthansa is one of the few airlines which still offer flight attendant Open Days – or as they call them, ‘Castings’.

In 2017, Lufthansa held 11 such Castings in cities throughout Germany – the airline said nearly 4,500 candidates attended the Castings last year and many found out whether they were successful the very same day.
And for those of you who think that age is a barrier to fulfilling your dream of becoming cabin crew, here’s some really heartening news. Adriana Werner was successful at a Lufthansa casting event last year – the mid-50-year old recruit describes her success as a “big dream” saying she couldn’t believe her luck at first.
But there’s no need to believe in luck – by proving you have the right skills, experience and personality, you too can achieve your dream. And now Lufthansa and its sister airlines are offering a lot more people that opportunity!
