Flights Stopped at Hollywood Burbank Airport After Man Runs In Front of Plane on the Runway

All operations at Hollywood Burbank International Airport who brought briefly to a standstill on Wednesday morning after a man somehow managed to evade airport security and ran in front of a moving plane as it taxied along a runway.

Footage from ABC7’s news helicopter showed a Caucasian male wearing a grey striped jumper and with his hands behind his back standing calmly by the side of the runway as a single police officer approached in an SUV.

The man appeared to offer himself to the officer in surrender and he was taken into custody without further incident. In a statement, the airport said operations got back under way after a security search was conducted of the airfield.

“At approximately 11:50 am, an unauthorized individual entered the airfield triggering the brief suspension of aircraft operations,” the airport said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“The individual was taken into custody by Airport Police within minutes of entering the airfield and operations were resumed shortly after inspection.”

Last month, a man managed to break through a perimeter fence at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and get onboard an American Airlines plane that was parked nearby in the early hours of the morning.

The man allegedly used a metal pipe to pry up the bottom of the security fence and then slid underneath onto the airfield. He then walked straight onto an American Airplanes plane but was spotted by a cleaning crew who were already onboard and who quickly alerted law enforcement.

It wasn’t clear what the man’s motives were. Police say the suspect was homeless and after being arrested on suspicion of trespassing, he was detained for psychiatric evaluation.
