American Airlines has released the first official pictures of its new Flagship Suite Business Class Seats, as well as a new Premium Economy seat and an updated interior design that will first appear on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft that are expected to be delivered in 2024.

There has been a lot of speculation over AA’s long-awaited and highly-anticipated new Business Class seat, and most of the rumors have been confirmed in the official mockups released by American Airlines on Tuesday.

For its widebody jets, American Airlines has opted for the Adient Ascent Business Class seat with privacy doors for its Flagship Suite. The highly-customizable seat is already in use by Qatar Airways on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Hawaiian Airlines is also expected to use the same product.

The seat will first start rolling out on American Airlines’ jets from 2024 when the carrier takes delivery of factory-fresh Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The Airbus A321XLR – a single-aisle long-range aircraft that could be deployed on transatlantic crossings will also have enclosed suites with in the same design language.

As well as being installed on brand new aircraft, AA also plans to refit its fleet of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with new premium seating starting in late 2024. The airline doesn’t have a timeline for when the 20-strong fleet will have completed the refit process.

American’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will have 51 Flagship Suite seats and 32 custom-designed Premium Economy seats. The Airbus A321XLR aircraft will feature 20 Flagship Suite seats and 12 Premium Economy seats.

As for the Boeing 777-300’s, the number of premium seats will increase to 70 Flagship Suites and 44 Premium Economy seats. The addition of Ascent suites will see AA remove its existing Flagship First seats and service.

As part of the retrofit project, AA has also confirmed that lie-flat seats will be removed from its Airbus A321T fleet which normally ply transcontinental routes but a spokesperson insisted the airline would still offer lie-flat options on these routes from New York and Boston.

“We are enhancing the customer experience across their entire journey with American,” commented AA’s vice president of customer experience Julie Rath on Tuesday.

“The arrival of new long-haul aircraft and the customized seat design of the Flagship Suite seats will offer customers a truly private premium experience on our long-haul fleet.”

Rath provided no further information on AA’s configuration of the Adient Ascent seat or anticipated changes to inflight service.
