A man flew into a violent rage at Milan Malpensa Airport on Wednesday morning, prompting the evacuation of Terminal 1 after he sprayed flammable liquid over several check-in counters and set them ablaze.
The man was also spotted using a hammer to attack the check-in desks and several advertising boards before he was wrestled to the ground by passersby.

Local media reports that the man is known to police because he was recently accused of a hammer attack on a shop in Milan. The man has been taken into custody.
Petrified passengers ran for their lives after mistaking the sound of hammer blows on the metal check-in desks for gunshots. The mass panic, along with the fire resulted in a temporary evacuation of the airport terminal as officials tried to restore order.
The man is believed that have been arrested on Tuesday for smashing the windows of a shop, but he was taken to a hospital and then released. He then traveled to Milan Malpensa Airport on Wednesday and carried out his attack.
His motives have not yet been determined.
