  • Why this marks Delta's first major overhaul of the Delta One service experience in nearly a decade, since its 2017 Alessi tableware collaboration.
  • How the new service ties into a much bigger cabin redesign, including a brand new Delta One Suite debuting on Delta's first Airbus A350-1000 in 2027.
  • Why Delta's last big attempt at reinventing onboard dining, launched in 2019, never survived the pandemic.
  • What little is actually known so far about the new equipment and menu, and why Delta isn't commenting yet.

Delta Air Lines is reportedly set to start training thousands of flight attendants on a new onboard experience it has been secretly designing for its premium Delta One cabin, with the new-look service set to go live this Fall on transoceanic services out of its Los Angeles hub.

Given the sheer scale of the program to train so many flight attendants, Delta plans to roll out the ‘next-generation’ experience progressively, beginning in Los Angeles and then expanding to other hubs through 2027, according to aviation insider JonNYC on X.

Delta hasn’t had a major revamp of its Delta One experience in nearly a decade, when, in 2018, it launched a collaboration with the upscale Italian homewares brand Alessi, which featured custom-designed tableware and flatware.

The new service design will coincide with a much bigger refresh of Delta’s long-haul cabins, including a brand new Delta One Suite which will feature on the carrier’s first Airbus A350-1000, which is expected to be delivered to the Atlanta-based airline in 2027.

The refresh is based on a new signature interior design language that was first unveiled in late 2024, featuring dark hues of navy blue complemented by pops of the airline’s iconic red colorway.

Delta is slowly rolling out the new look across much of its long-haul widebody fleet, with the retrofit program expected to be complete within the next five years.

In terms of on-board service, Delta hasn’t really tried to fully refresh the experience since 2019, when it launched what it described as one of its “biggest investments in the Main Cabin dining experience to date.”

The new service included menu cards, a new signature welcome drink, redesigned trays, service ware, and cutlery. The redesigned service was, however, completely upended by the COVID-19 pandemic and never returned, even when travel demand returned stronger than ever.

According to JonNYC, the next-generation Delta One experience will include new cabin service equipment and a refreshed menu, although details of the exact changes are still being kept under wraps.

No doubt the change is being driven, at least in part, by United’s continued drive to become the premium U.S. airline. But while United only recently updated its premium cabin serviceware, the carrier remains renowned for its lackluster culinary offerings.

Delta Air Lines did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
