A flight attendant for Southwest Airlines has got himself into hot water after taking to social media to call out a supporter of President Trump who was a passenger on one of his recent flights. The flight attendant, who has since deleted the post from his personal Facebook account, took a photo of the passenger who was wearing a dark blue t-shirt emblazoned with the words “TRUMP 45” and “SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP” along with the American flag (as seen below).
The t-shirt has become a popular way for Trump’s supporters to praise the fact that ‘The Donald’ is the 45th President of the United States, while also putting down anyone who is critical of his presidency.
“Someone did NOT get my most Positively Outrageous Service today on my flight … #notgoingtosuckitup #dumpTrump #eeew,” read a comment the flight attendant posted on his Facebook account to accompany the photo of the passenger.
Internally, Southwest Airlines encourages its employees to offer “positively outrageous” service.
It’s understood that the flight attendant never sought permission from the passenger to take the photo. The image has since been deleted.
If ever there needed to be a lesson that Facebook friends aren’t real friends then this is it – the post was shared by one of the flight attendant’s ‘friends’ who happens to be a Trump supporter. It was then shared on Southwest Airlines’ own Facebook account by another Trump supporter who called on the airline to sack the crew member.
A spokesperson told USA Today that it had since deleted the post and was now conducting an internal investigation.
“We aim to provide outstanding service to all who travel with us,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
“The post in question does not reflect the inclusive environment we strive to provide for our customers and employees.”
USA Today notes that the flight attendant’s post was likely in violation of his employer’s social media guidelines – even if posted to his personal Facebook account.
