A ground antenna at Antalya Airport in Türkiye tore a hole in the side of a Boeing 777 operated by Turkish Airlines on June 11 after the pilots took the wrong turn while taxiing to the gate, ending up on a taxiway that was too narrow for the massive widebody aircraft.
Shocking scenes from inside the passenger cabin shared on social media showed serious damage to the overhead lockers and sidewalls of the 17-year-old Boeing 777-300, which is still painted in the colors of Indian low-cost airline IndiGo as part of a lease agreement between the two carriers.

Turkish Airlines flight TK-2430 had just completed a short one-hour flight from Istanbul and was taxiing to the gate when the accident occurred on Thursday evening. The aircraft landed on Runway 18 C and then turned off onto Taxiway G to reach the apron area at the Domestic Terminal.
Once the aircraft reached the turnoff for the apron of the Domestic Terminal, the pilots were directed to turn right in order to reach their gate. There were two taxiway lines, with the first crossing right next to the ground antenna.
The pilots followed the first line, which didn’t give the aircraft enough clearance to taxi past the ground antenna. The wingtip of the right-hand wing slammed into the antenna, mangling the wing before the antenna smashed into the fuselage, piercing a hole in the side of the plane.
A spokesperson for Turkish Airlines confirmed that of the 267 passengers on board the plane, only one person sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Spokesperson Yahya ÜSTÜN explained: “Our Boeing 777 aircraft, registered as TC-LKD, which operated flight TK2430 from Istanbul to Antalya, made contact with the ground radar antenna pole with its right wing while maneuvering to the parking position at Antalya Airport.”
“All 267 passengers on our aircraft have been safely evacuated, and we have received information that the health condition of one passenger who sustained minor injuries is good.” The statement added: “A technical investigation regarding the incident has been initiated.”
Video taken from inside the cabin showed cabin crew caring for shocked passengers before everyone was safely evacuated from the aircraft via mobile airstairs and bussed to the terminal building.
