Heathrow Airport Shuts Down As Man Escapes Custody And Runs Across Airfield… And It Was All Caught On Camera

man escapes onto airfield at Heathrow airport

A suspected deportee was caught on camera sprinting across the airfield of Heathrow Airport on Sunday afternoon as security guards struggled to chase after him as she ran past aircraft that were taxiing around the airport.

The dramatic incident was caught on camera and shared live by the charismatic Jerry Dyer, who runs the popular Big Jet TV aviation news channel that became popular for filming aborted landings during stormy days at Heathrow.

On Sunday, June 8, however, a seemingly normal day of filming departures and arrivals at the West London airport took an unexpected turn when Jerry caught a man sprinting across the tarmac.

Check out the wild video below which starts just before the chase begins…

Behind the man by some distance, were several uniformed officers struggling to keep up and looking visibly exhausted as they tried to catch up.

At one point, the man stopped and looked around, perhaps wondering what was next after seemingly escaping custody but now finding himself on the live airfield of the busiest airport in Europe.

Air traffic controllers quickly worked to stop aircraft at the airport as the officers continued to try to chase the escapee. In the end however, it was two ground workers in a van who managed to catch up with the man and detain him.

“What are you doing, mate?” Jerry is heard saying in the video in his characteristic style. “Get on the floor, son… Give yourself up!” Jerry continues.

The man was wearing what appears to be a wearing an unrestrained ‘soft cuff’ body restraint, which is commonly used by the UK Immigration Enforcement agency when removing some deportees from the country.

A spokesperson for the Home Office, which runs the agency, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Heathrow Airport is yet to comment on the incident.
