The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Monday that it was reversing a Biden administration decision to change the name of an aviation safety publication system from ‘Notice to Airmen’ to ‘Notice to Air Mission.’
Commonly referred to as a NOTAM, the system is the primary method to provide updates to pilots about anything that may affect the safety of flight.
In 2021, the FAA adopted a recommendation from an external committee that had suggested changing the meaning of NOTAM to ‘Notice to Air Mission’ as part of a push to introduce gender-neutral language.
The idea behind the change was to challenge the long-held stereotype that women can’t or shouldn’t be pilots. At the same time, the term ‘cockpit’ fell out of fashion due to its obvious connotations, and some airlines and government agencies started referring to it as the ‘flight deck.’
Other gender-neutral changes suggested by the committee included replacing ‘repairman’ with ‘technician,’ ‘airman’ with ‘aviator’ and ‘manmade’ with ‘manufactured.’
Although the FAA did not offer an explanation for the sudden change, President Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy have made no secret of the fact that they believe the Biden administration put DEI and equality initiatives over aviation safety.
In a short message posted to the federal register, the FAA said: “Effective immediately, the term Notice to Air Missions is being changed to Notice to Airmen.”
Around the same time that the FAA adopted gender-neutral language, many US airlines and international carriers stopped referring to passengers as “Ladies and Gentlemen” during onboard announcements.
Instead, airlines, including Delta Air Lines, now instruct flight attendants to say “Hello everybody” or “Dear passengers” when addressing customers in announcements. The aim of the change was to become more inclusive.
President Trump has already signed an executive order proclaiming that only two genders – male and female – exist, and the State Department has already stopped issuing gender-neutral passports with an X designation.

prices will come down any day now…. /s
You guys just can’t handle this can you?
How do gender neutral terms affect you? Saying firefighter instead of fireman, police officer instead of policeman, flight attendant instead of stewardess, etc. is that hard? I guess for someone with limited vocabulary, it is.
So the holes in the street are not manholes but person holes? Sounds like asshole to me
